This Is my Anthropology DIY . I saw this while surfing Pinterest. When I saw it I knew I had to do it . The first pic is the Original sold by Anthropology. This mirror costs $500!!! The next side by side mirrors are another DIY lady's mirrors and here look really nice. So I decided to try my luck on this little beauty! I payed less than $20 for it all.I like the way it turned out I'm thinking of looking for more mirrors at the thrift store and see what I can create!
The above pic is the supplies I used. 1 mirror, Mod Podge, Easy Off,Staple gun, 9/16th's size staples, Vintage Material, a Wool(sos pad)Pad, and a Blow dryer.
Peel off the backing (if there is one) and expose the grey backing.
Spray the Easy off in random spots . Think , old and vintage . Like the way "Time" wears on things. Leave this on for about 5 mins and check it . If black/grey stuff comes off easy then its time . I had to wait for about 15 mins. Now , most of the DIY's I have read didn't say anything about using anything other than Easy Off . But I was having a little trouble with getting the mirror to be see through . So I wiped off most of the gunk and poured a little nail polish remover over the spots and started rubbing with a sos pad till the desired size of whiole.
Now measure out your material and make sure you have enough to cover the back fully and to go around the trim , fully.
Now , take your material that you have set aside for the frame and cut in into strips that would fit the size of the frame. Now , keep in mind, if you have grooves in your frames you will need a big enough strip to get in the grooves and mold to the frame.
Now cover the frame with Mod Podge . Then lay your strip on the frame . Now cover your strip completely with Mod Poge. Make sure it's wet, but not to the point where the Mod drips off .
I took a blow dryer ( because in inpatient ) to get it to dry . It works but you'll be at it for a while! lol
The news paper was used b/c I have no back now that I ripped it off . I also used a cardboard square and stapled it and the material to the back of the frame .
***WARNING***: Be very careful that you do not crack your mirror with the staples. Unfortunately I did . So I will have to do this project again . lol I'm considering this my "trial run" lol
And there we have it! Its a little hard to see b/c i'm not good at taking pics of mirrors without me being in the pic. But from the examples at the top of the page , i'm sure you get the idea. ;0)
So I hope you have a wonderful time trying this. Be careful ... it's addicting!
Happy Trails!
